2012 Concert : Going Underground

Waikaretu Performing Arts Festival Sunday 5th February 2012, 1401 Waikaretu Valley Road

The next concert will be on Sunday February 5th 2012.

It’s a long weekend celebrating Waitangi Day so it makes it easier for more people to be involved.

The concert will be called ‘Going Underground’

The program will kick off around 3 pm with 17 year old super star in the making Michelle Stratton of Tokoroa who will do a 40 minute set of her original songs and some selected covers. Check her out on Youtube.

Next up will be Warren Cate and Grant Wills with another acoustic set. These guys were jaw dropping last year and promise to be as good again this time around.

Next will be Deja VU & Nico,  a Velvet Underground/Lou Reed tribute project with Dave Stewart, Robbie Van der Lisdonk Matt Grant and Danielle Smith.

David Arrowsmith’s band Amphetamine are finishing the night off. Check out their music and videos at Reverbnation

There will be a hangi meal at around 5.30 – 6.30 and a koha will get you a plate of wild pork and vegetables.

Early birds.

People who want to make a day of it and arrive early enough can really Go Underground with  a tour through Nikau Caves which is 3 km further on down the road.

Nikau Cave is one kilometre long, has a stream running through it and is in its natural state. Most of the cave is open and spacious except for a ten-metre length, which must be crawled through. A wide variety of stalactites and stalagmites can be seen including giant pillars, fine straws and flowing shawls. The glow-worms and their dewy threads, may be studied up close. In the big, cathedral-like cavern they resemble the night sky.
