Silver Medal Tally Grows

Australian 1500 metre specialist ‘Gilly’ Perkins has made it a dream come true by winning silver in the mens 1500 freestyle final at the Sydney 2000 Olympics.

“I’ve tried to get this medal 3 times now and finally I have my hands on it”

“It’s a dream come true”

Perkins missed out on two previous Olympic silver medals in the 1500 free and had long sought to overcome this.

“At heart, I’ve always wanted to conform and be a second place getter”

Gordon Hackett, who took gold in the event said he hoped one day he would know what it was like to come second.

This takes Australia’s second medal tally to an unprecedented 12.

This puts Australia at the top of the silver medal tally.

“We are ecstatic over the result, coming second comes first in our country and we are coming first at coming second for the first time ever.”

“It’s been a long time coming, but we are truly the Runner Up Capital Of The World”, an Australian sporting official, who declined to be named, told The Age last night. SILVER TALLY
